Tuesday, Feburary 20, Rappler reporter Pia Ranada was prevented from entering the New Executive Building (NEB) in Malacañang on Monday morning.
PSG Corporal Marc Anthony Cempron, who was at the guardhouse by the gate, informed Ranada that she would not be allowed to get past the gate.
In a Facebook post of Atty. Bruce Rivera, he explained why Ranada was not allowed to enter Malacañan.
According to Rivera, Rappler was not considered as media, but a social media, and they need an accreditation from PCOO as bloggers.
On January 11, the Securities of Exchange Commission (SEC) revoked Rappler’s license to operate for violating the constitutionally mandated foreign equity restriction in mass media.

"DEAR PIA RANADA,
I know, it hurts. Hindi ka pinapasok sa Malacañan dahil hindi na nga considered media ang Rappler. Pero, hindi naman talaga media ang company mo in the real sense of the word. It is social media. Yes, the unregulated media where you do not answer to KBP or MTRCB. So dapat, magpa-accredit kayo sa PCOO as bloggers. Tama ba, Sec. Martin Andanar?
Kasi the purpose of accreditation for bloggers so you can cover the President without a Media ID. Kaya nga hindi ako nagpa-accredit kasi wala akong planong buntutan ang Pangulo so why need it.
But you need it to be able to write stuff about him, interview his cabinet so you can be able to make articles based on surmises and conjectures pass it off as news when what you are doing is basically what bloggers are doing. Yeah, not all blogger but the really heartless and greedy ones. So, get with the program and get an accredititation. Madali lang naman eh. All you need is 1000 followers.
Bilog talaga ang mundo. There was a time Rappler was trying to attack me because they said I had no right to be given a media ID at the ASEAN because I have no qualifications. May umiyak pa nga na kasama ninyo, di ba?
But now, poetic justice. See, I have a media ID. I do not need some bloggers accreditation. Ikaw na ngayon ang walang media persona. So, I guess God works in mysterious ways. O ayan, CBCP...I still believe in God.
Note: This post is not the opinion of the station but my opinion. Para klaro."
Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said according to Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Ranada can still cover press briefings pending the resolution of Rappler’s appeal before the Court of Appeals regarding its revocation of incorporation papers by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
