The arrest order, released Monday, was signed by Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III last Wednesday, said Senator Francis Escudero, chair of the Senate Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies.
The Senate’s Office of the Sergeant at Arms (OSAA) is now expected to deliver the arrest warrant to Bautista’s known addresses.
Escudero, in their hearing last February 12, held Bautista in contempt and ordered his arrest after he failed to show up at the panel’s investigation despite a subpoena issued against him.
Bautista only sent the committee a letter saying he did not receve any invitation because he was out of the country since November last year.
Bautista said he was abroad “to explore professional opportunities abroad, and more importantly, to seek assistance for certain medical challenges.”
The former Comelec chief was accused by his estranged wife, Patricia, of amassing nearly P1 billion of ill-gotten wealth which he allegedly failed to declare in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).
