Rappler claimed that their journalist Pia Ranada who’s a member of the Malacañang Press Corps (MPC) has been banned to enter not only the New Executive Building, but the whole palace complex itself.
In a tweet, Ranada confirmed the news which she described as ‘heartbreaking’ because she would really miss her job inside the palace.
“I’m informed by Malacañang that I can no longer enter Malacañang complex as a whole, not just the Palace.” Ranada tweeted.
“Thus, I’ve been banned from Harry Roque’s press briefings. No more opportunity to ask questions in person, make follow-ups, participate in ambush interviews. I’ll definitely miss that. I didn’t realize today would be my last day in Malacañang. Breaks my heart.” Ranada said in another tweet.
According to the article of Rappler, Presidential Communications Undersectary Mia Reyes was the one who informed Ranada by phone.
“You cannot enter the whole of Malacañang complex,” she said.
The order to ban Ranada from the whole palace area was came from the Presidential Security Group (PSG).
This was happened several hours after the MPC itself said that Pia Ranada will remain a member of the journalists’ circle.
“Ang Malacañang Press Corps ay isang independent media organization…Itong membership sa Malacañang Press Corps, kumbaga, MPC reserved the right to accredit its own members. Hindi ito pinapasyahan ng Malacañang,” MPC President Raymond Tianaza told radio DZMM.
Yesterday, PSG Commander Brigadier General Louie Dagoy warned Ranada over her rude attitude towards his men who got pestered by the journalist.
Dagoy said that if Ranada continued her bad behavior, he would not hesitate to ban her in the whole Malacañang complex.
“Pasalamat kayo at hindi kayo sinaktan sa pambabastos na ginawa niyo, it’s very rude on their part, you should have done it with calling the proper person,” Dagoy during his interview with PCOO Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.
“(Pia) Next time mangyari uli yan (pambabastos) I will ban you from Malacañang complex.” he added.
The latest development comes after the media website condemned the statements of Dagoy that Ranada must be grateful that the PSG personnel whom she repeatedly asked questions related to her ban inside the palace didn’t hurt her.
Rappler condemned the recent action of Malacañang against their journalist and they described it as a suppression on press freedom.
But Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said that Rappler must fix their way of publishing news first before crying for press freedom.
“Peke na nga ang balita ng Rappler, peke pa rin ang pagiging Pilipino nila. Ayusin muna nila ang dalawang bagay na ito bago sila sumigaw ng kalayaan sa pamamahayag.” Roque said.
