Yes you heard it right, Panos Mourdoukoutas, a professor of LIU Post, New York City admits that President Rodrigo Duterte has brought wellness to Filipinos despite his reputation in the west.
Without biases, Mourdoukoutas looked up numbers in the latest Gallup survey and has confirmed that 28% of the Filipinos lived positively enough to rank themselves as thriving, an 11% increase compared to 2012’s 17% rating. This made the Philippines rank in the 7th Asia-Pacific Region, a huge advance from being ranked 14th back in 2012.
The professor personally stated in his article that,
“…the rise in the Philippines ranking may come as a surprise to observers in America and Europe who focus on President Duterte’s human rights record rather than his economic policy record.”
Speaking of economy, the Philippines currently ranks as the 10th fastest growing economy in 2017, with an initial GDP growth of 6.6% which is still expected to increase to an at most of 7.5% by the time the computations are over. This is all according to the World Bank’s latest edition of Global Economic Prospects.
Mourdoukoutas also explained the luck that sided the Philippines as other neighboring countries’ economies boosted, which caused a boost in exports, accounting for an estimated 1/3 of the GDP.
“Duterte has maintained a stable macroeconomic environment of low inflation and low debt to GDP ratio, which has helped sustain a healthy consumer spending growth,” said Mourdoukoutas.
Equity markets also show that we have gained over 45% in the last year by the iShares MSCI Philippines.
Investors are liking what they see in the Asia-Pacific, the geopolitical turmoil has subsided for now which is resulting in a vibrant economy. Due to our president’s efforts, life in the Philippines has grown better than other countries in Asia, specifically, India.
