“We need to encourage our students to participate in the activities as part of their education.”

“Whenever possible, please excuse students if they miss classes because of their participation in these activities, for which they should present proof of attendance. At the same time, it must be made clear that they cannot be excused for missing exams and deadlines for reports,” saad ni Tan.

“I have participated in some of the activities and am disturbed, realizing that we live not only in an age of fake news but of silence, particularly in relation to human rights violations in Mindanao,” saad niya.

“People should go beyond protest actions and be able to propose concrete alternatives. That is what we are trying to do with a UP education.”

Paliwanag pa niya, “As we move toward commemorating the 32nd anniversary of the EDSA revolt, we recognize how troubling and uncertain the times are, marked by what the psychologist Leon Festinger called ‘cognitive dissonance.”

“Our young in particular are vexed by the sharp discrepancy between what we teach in schools about morality and democracy and by what they see in practice,” dagdag niya.
