According to OWWA administrator, Hans Leo Cacdac OFW member of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for at least 10 years that have not yet availed any kind of benefits from OWWA might be eligible for a rebate or cash-back. This rebate is expected to get available in the first quarter of 2018.

For those who are not aware, OWWA is an institution that seeks to protect the welfare and interest of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW). Those who avail their membership can enjoy benefits like a life or accident insurance and a burial benefit.

Cacdac said that this rebate service projected to be running by the first quarter of 2018 is another initiative that they have planned last year.

The project has been heavily criticized but Cacdac implored their members to stay patient. OWWA is doing everything to ensure minimal changes and reforms once the amount has been released to the public.

“Crucial po yung magkano. Kasi we want to make sure na una hindi masyadong maliit. At pangalawa, hindi ko naman masabing hind masyadong malaki, pero yung sigurado tayong kakayanin ng pondo.“

The administration has also hired an actuarial expert to help them figure out the sustainability of such a generous service. Apart from figuring out the amount of money they would be handing out, Cacdac also stressed that another study has to be conducted to know the right mode of payment.

“There is a possibility that the members have already relocated in other places. One suggestion that we are looking into is through the banking system.”
