In an opinion column in Manila Times, veteran Jojo Robles let out his thoughts towards Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, saying that “he if the personification of all that is wrong with the Senate.”
Robles called his column piece “The Trillanes Cancer”.
He tackled the issue of Trillanes’ theory that Boracay will be closed down, not to rehabilitate the island, but rather, in order to make the construction of the casinos easier.
“I maintain my position that the reason why Boracay was ordered closed is for the planned [casino]construction where they need the ports to bring in construction materials and heavy equipment,” Trillanes said.
“They can’t do this with tourists around, so for me, to shed light on this issue, I’ll be filing a resolution calling for a Senate investigation,” he added.
To which Robles responded that the theory is not a new one as he has heard it from other before. However, Robles says that this holds no weight because Trillanes has not presented evidence to support his claim.
He breaks down how Trillanes’ theory is false. He says that in order for the theory to work a lot of things need to happen first. However, Duterte already declared that the island will be rehabilitated, also that the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) approval was issued under the Aquino administration.
Robles fleshes out that because of the closure, the construction will not happen, rather, the casino investors will take their business elsewhere.
"What Trillanes wants to do is to use the Senate once again to find something, anything, to bolster his fantastic claims," Robles said.
He also expresses his relief that Trillanes will no longer be in the Senate in the next elections as he will be maxing out his term already. Robles adds that Trillanes’ “old tactics” will not work on Duterte .
Ending his post, he says, “This man is a menace to the country, a cancer in the body politic It’s about time he is removed, for good, hopefully," Robles said.
