In the commitment to fully support the rehabilitation and recovery of the war-torn Marawi City and its residents, the Duterte administration through the efforts of Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) awarded fiberglass fishing boats and fingerlings for the fisher folks in towns surrounding the 35,000-hectare Lake Lanao.


 

According to Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol, a total of 200 fiberglass and 2-million Tilapia fingerlings were given to the residents affected by the 5-month long battle in Marawi as well as the residents affected by Typhoon Vinta recently.

 An initial start-up capital of P2, 500 were also given by DAF-ARMM to each family-beneficiaries who was also the recipient of the fiberglass fishing boats.

Thrilled fishermen immediately tested their new fishing boats right after the ceremony, according to them, it was the “first ever decent” assistance they accepted from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).



Meanwhile, the 2-million fingerlings were just the first batch of the 3-million fingerlings to be seeded in the lake before the year 2018 ends.
