The revocable of Rapplers license became the talk of the town, and for his a lot of netizen especially Duterte supporters were glad with this decision. While for Rappler's side, it was irrespective because for them. they lost their freedom of speech.

And because of this issue, Atty. Bruce Rivera is also known as a Duterte supporter has spoken and slam Pia Ranada through an open letter.

Dear Pia Ranada,

Let me say this with much humility, the reason why there are so many so-called investigative journalists and press turn out to be assholes and self-proclaimed gift to mankind is because of your distorted concept of press freedom.

Let me simplify it so others who think like you (this includes DDS enablers and bloggers as well) will understand and not feign miscomprehension.

You speak of freedom of the press and speech like it is a limitless right. For people like you, press freedom is about having an unbridled right to tell the public your version of the truth and having the vehicle to say it. If you have both, you are happy, powerful and sadly, smug.

Your power or the perception if it lies in the people that has access to you. The more people follow of watch you, the more powerful you feel and the more assholier you become. Many DDS bloggers suffer the same fate.

Why is that?

Because to most of you, press freedom is a power and a right BUT you forget that it also has responsibilities. Once you had Rappler as a powerful vehicle or once a blogger has reached a following by the millions, you instantaneously become omnipotent. Your confidence stems from a wrongful place of power and most of you forget that you have responsibilities that come with it.

First, what you say becomes gospel truth to an undiscerning audience. Hence, you can destroy reputations and endanger lives by just a click. So when you printed a picture of me as a paid propagandist of the Duterte administration without verifying your facts or even just a phone call to get my side, you are not exercising a right, YOU ARE ABUSING A POWER. That is what PRD was trying to tell you. And that arrogance is selective because you extended a certain level of restraint to the past administration.

Same goes to powerful bloggers. When you have expose of public officials worst, even normal people like me without much as a phone call or comment, you are not exercising a right, you are abusing a power. Hence, you should be held in the same league as bullies and not the false victims you profess to be.

Second, when you claim press freedom and claim to be harbingers of the truth, but you seem to forget that there is an obligation to disclose it to your audience at the time they needed to know it and not suppress it or even worst, decide to hide it and reveal it when it best suits your narrative. That is not an exercise of press freedom. IT IS AN ABUSE OF CONFIDENCE. The right of the press is by telling the people what it ought to know at the time when it matters to them and not when it matters to you. That is why its called news. It should be knew. So when you report on the dengue vaccine one year after you receive the information and make it appear that it was the first time you said it, is not news. It is MANIPULATION. Ergo, you can claim press freedom yet manipulate the truth at the same time.

Third, your idea of press freedom is that its exercise has no consequences to other people. Hence, when you are wrong, your refuge is not humility. You simply find new things to say to cover up your ineptness and worst, you do not even have the humility to apologize.

So it is not PRD who has a flawed understanding of press freedom, Pia. It is people like you and many like you who think press freedom is a right you deserve without regard for its basic obligations of humanity and fair play.

And that is the reason why you and Rappler are in the shithole you are in. When you insist on press freedom without regard for humanity, there will come a time, humanity fights back. This is for all the victims of your irresponsible reporting fighting back. You have bullied long enough.
